About Jonathan

jonathan with music studentsJonathan Barber is an accomplished musician, performer, director, and music educator. Passionate about music and the theater Jonathan honed his craft at Methodist University, earning a BA in Music in 2000.

He has served as the Music Director for the Thalian Association since 2007, directing many main stage shows including, The Pirates of Penzance, Jekyll & Hyde, The Wizard of Oz, Ain’t Misbehaving, A Wonderful Life, Oliver, The Sound of Music, Phantom, The Taffetas, White Christmas, All Shook up, The Drowsy Chaperone, Big, The Buddy Holly Story, Ragtime, A Day in Hollywood, A Miracle on 34th street, and Xanadu. In addition he has done pit work for several area theater companies such as Opera House Theatre Company, The Thalian Association, City Stage, and Big Dawg Productions.

A life-long Carolinian, Jonathan grew up in Fayetteville, and has lived in Wilmington, NC since 2005. With more than 15 years experience in church music, and having participated in an eclectic mix of theater productions, Jonathan is comfortable with a diverse and varied selection of musical styles.

Jonathan loves to share his love of music with others, and has more than 15 years of teaching experience, working with students of all ages and all skill levels. He also works with TACT (Thalian Associations Children’s Theatre.)
